O’Callaghan, Winifred (Winnie) of Pearl River, NY
Our beloved Winnie passed away with her loving family at her side. She was born in the village of Ballinlough, County Roscommon, Ireland, on March 19, 1936, to the late Michael and Ellen Flynn.
Winnie came to New York at 17 years old and worked at White Castle, where she made lifelong friends and soon after met the love of her life, Owen (Eugene), at an Irish dance. She was a substitute teacher at SBJL in Queens before moving to Rockland County in 1981. She was then contacted to help open the White Castle in Nanuet, NY, where she then spent many years running the restaurant.
Survived by her children, Mary Ellen O’Callaghan, Eugene O’Callaghan, and Donna Buggy. Grandma to Ciara Bilello, Madelyn and Stephanie O’Callaghan, Brendan (Brianne), Sean and Cristin Buggy. She is also survived by eight great grandchildren and sister’s in-law Carmel O’Callaghan, Siobhan Lenehan and brothers in-law Timmy and Donald O’Callaghan along with her many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends in the US, Ireland and England.
Predeceased by her adoring husband Owen (Eugene) sisters Eileen McGroarty (James), Bridget Killeen (Paddy), Mae Keene, Rose (Paddy) Greene, Anne (Martin) Murray, brother Thomas Flynn and brother’s in-law Michael O’Callaghan and Sean O’Callaghan and granddaughter Patricia Crisostomo.
Mom loved her family with all her heart and soul, and showed us every day. We will miss her terribly. We are comforted knowing she is reunited with Dad and all her family and friends who have gone before her. She loved to dance with Dad, and I know they are together having the most beautiful dance. We will always love our Roscommon girl, she’s the Rose of Castlerea.
