William Keane, originally of Derryrush, Rosmuc, Co Galway, Ireland and since 1979 a resident of Pearl River, New York, died at home on June 5, 2022 of complications related to Parkinson’s Disease. His wife and daughters were with him at his time of passing.
Known as Willie, he immigrated to New York in 1963 was a NYC tunnel worker (“a sandhog”) for more than thirty years. Shortly before his death he received his medal for fifty years of union membership in Laborers International.
He is survived by his wife, Evelyn, who took care of him for the twenty-three years since his diagnosis; his daughters Mary Beth (Martin), Annette (William), and Catherine (Jason); his grandsons Owen, Emmett, Eamon, Liam and a fifth grandson due to arrive in July; his brothers and sisters Maureen, Maggie, Tommy, Joe, Paul, Paddy, Gerry; his many, many nieces and nephews, all of whom he loved to get news of and looked forward to seeing whenever he could.
He is predeceased by his brothers Mike, Seamus, and Martin and his nephew and godson, Martin. He is with them now in heaven.
Visitation will be at Wyman-Fisher Funeral Home in Pearl River on Thursday June 9 from 4-8pm. A mass of Christian Burial will be at St Aedan’s Church in Pearl River on Friday June 10 at 10:00am.
