William Henehan, 75, of Chestnut Ridge, NY, passed away peacefully on October 28, 2025, at Emerson Health Care Center in Emerson, NJ.
Born on the 4th of July, 1950, in Long Island City, NY, William was the son of the late William Henehan and Marion Henehan (née McGuggart). He has two sisters, Eileen Pellegrino (Thomas) and the late Maureen Strehle (Michael). He adopted the nickname Buddy as a young man, and Bill as a professional.
A graduate of Pace University, Bill dedicated 30 years of service to the New York City Transit Authority first as a bus driver, then a subway motorman, and finally as a track inspector, where his diligence, reliability, and commitment to safety earned the respect of his colleagues. He retired in 2012 leaving behind a legacy of professionalism and integrity.
A longtime resident of Chestnut Ridge, Bill was deeply involved in his community. He volunteered his time with the Department of Aging driving seniors to medical appointments and served as an election poll worker. Known for his generous spirit and kind heart, Bill will be remembered for the compassion he showed to everyone he met.
Bill is survived by his beloved wife of 53 years, Maria, his sister Eileen, his sons Billy and David, and their wives Julie and Nancy; his cherished princess granddaughters Emma, Violet, Callie, and Ruby, brothers-and- sisters-in-laws, and a host of nieces and nephews who always knew him as Uncle Buddy. His love for his family was unwavering, and his warmth and humor will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
A wake will be held on Monday, November 3, 2025, at Wyman-Fisher Funeral Home, 100 Franklin Avenue, Pearl River, NY, from 2:00–4:00 PM and 6:00–8:00 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, November 4, 2025, at 10:00 AM at Saint Margaret’s Church, 115 West Central Avenue, Pearl River, NY, followed by the funeral at Saint Anthony's Church, 36 West Nyack Road, Nanuet, NY.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society in Bill's memory.
Buddy's kindness, integrity, and devotion to family and community will live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him.
