Vito Agosti Obituary

Vito C. Agosti, age 76, was born in Cles, Italy (Trentino Provence) on October 22, 1948 to Andrea and Marina (Filippi) Agosti. He immigrated to the U.S. in 1950 and the family settled in Brooklyn. Vito went to elementary school at St. Brigid and then attended Westinghouse High School.

Vito graduated from Northern Michigan University with a Bachelors Degree and then New York University with a Masters in Social Work. He worked with the Developmentally Disabled at WARC. He began working for NY State as a therapist in South Beach Psychiatric Center and then transferred to NY State Psychiatric Institute at Columbia where he worked as a Research Scientist until his retirement. He was widely published in the field of Depression in all the medical journals.

After retirement Vito truly enjoyed all his hobbies: photography, music- especially Jazz, computers, gardening, and yoga to name a few. He was an avid participant in all the Adult Programs at the Pearl River Library. Also a member of the Pearl River "A" club where he made many friends.

Vito married Maureen O' Connor in 1974 and just this August they celebrated 50 years of marriage. Because of Maureen, he developed a love for Irish Music. In 1981, Vito and Maureen welcomed their son, Brian and years later in 1986 they moved to Rockland. Vito and Maureen enjoyed travel through the U.S. and Europe where they tried new cuizines and took many memorable pictures.Vito's career as a coach of basketball and baseball began by watching his son play. He went on to be a joyous spectator at Nanuet and Albertus Magnus games.

Vito's family happily welcomed daughter-in-law Bridget Collins and then Grandsons Drew in 2011 and Troy in 2013. He enjoyed cheering them on at all their games and concerts. Recently, they welcomed Grand-dog, Cece.

Special thank you to Shanice Vaughn and Geraldine Madden for their kindness, care and affection as Vito's home health aids.

To all of Vito's neighbors and friends, thank you for your many caring actions and support throughout the years.
