Virginia Oy (Lee) Jung passed away on Sunday morning, February 19, 2023, after a brave 2-year battle with colon cancer. She was 62.
Virginia was born in Manhattan on July 29, 1960 to Po Jing and Mei King (Lai) Lee. She was raised in Elmhurst, Queens, where she helped take care of her grandparents and her brother, Harry. She went on to attend Baruch College, where she met her husband of 39 years, Jeffrey Jung.
After college, she began working in Human Resources at Marubeni America Corp until she moved to the United Kingdom. Upon returning to New York, Virginia found her home, and the family settled in Pearl River. Not one to be idle, Virginia continued her career at the Westgate Inn (formerly Best Western of Nyack) until 2022.
Virginia would be best described as a nurturer at heart. Even up until the very end, she was always more concerned about comforting others than herself. She never cared for material things or being the center of attention, but would rather spread love to those around her and would generously offer a helping hand without being asked. Always being one step ahead, she was there when someone needed. But what she loved the most was going the extra mile and spoiling her family, especially her “favorite children” – her former pup, Lexi, and later, Lady.
Embodying the strongest family values, Virginia was the heart and soul of her family and home. She embraced everyone with open arms, and created an environment where everyone was welcome and well cared for. She enjoyed sharing joy through a home-cooked meal, and would go above and beyond to make sure those special to her received their favorite dishes. From special occasions to weekday sushi nights, she loved getting together with her many loved ones any chance she could get, and always looked forward to the large family gatherings for the holidays.
Virginia’s memory will forever live on through the lives of her husband, Jeffrey Jung, her children, Justin Jung and Ashley Jung Hadges, and her son-in-law, Theodore Hadges. She is also survived by her brother, Harry Lee and his wife, Marlin Lee, as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins who will never forget her warm spirit and bright smile.
Her memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 4, 2023 at 10:30 AM at the Wyman-Fisher Funeral Home, 100 Franklin Ave, Pearl River, NY. Visiting hours will be held from 10:30 AM to 12:30 PM. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited.
When asked what her final wishes were, she replied that she wanted everyone to join together for a post-service meal, and for people to eat! So, the family invites you to please join them to celebrate her life with good company and comforting food.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Virginia’s memory to the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center Geri & ME Fund (https://giving.mskcc.org/geri-and-me) or Fight Colorectal Cancer (https://fightcrc.funraise.org).
