After a long and full life, Tom (Joseph Thomas) Knarich, 80, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, December 11, 2022. He was surrounded by the love of his family and dear friends.
He was the son of Grenville and Lucille (Bauscher) Knarich. Tom was the beloved husband of Jayne Schefcick Knarich of Bardonia. They were married for 55 years. He was a devoted father to his three loving children: Joseph Knarich (Rosemary), Gina Danialinia (Nersi), and Lori Koumjian (Robert). His three grandchildren who brought him much joy: Madison Knarich (fiancé Carter Whitmore), Colin Knarich, and Caroline Knarich. He was a devoted brother to Bruce Knarich (Carole), Judy Cascioli (Richard), and Eileen Fields (Jeffrey), and was adored by his extended family and friends.
Tom was born and raised in Nyack, NY where he maintained many fond memories and strong connections. A 1961 graduate of Nyack High School, he was appointed a Patrolman to the Upper Nyack Police Department in October 1963. When the village police department was disbanded on December 31, 1964, he was hired by the Clarkstown Police Department where he served until 1987.
His sense of community was evident in all that he did. A Life Member of the Nyack Ambulance Corps and active in Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Tom enjoyed helping others. From his professional career in public service to helping friends and neighbors with projects, he enthusiastically embraced life.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, December 15, 2022, from 4-8 PM at Wyman-Fisher Funeral Home, 100 Franklin Ave., Pearl River, NY 10965. Funeral service will be held at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 112 N. Main St., Pearl River, NY 10965, on Friday, December 16, 2022, at 10:30 AM.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to United Hospice, 11 Stokum Ln., New City, NY 10956, who, in his words, took “unbelievable” care of him in his final days.
