Thomas P. McGrath of Pearl River, New York, passed away on December 30, 2025. He was 67 years old. Tommy fought his illness courageously, facing each challenge with strength, determination, and grace.
Born on January 29, 1958, in Manhattan and raised in Riverdale, NY, Tommy was the beloved son of John McGrath and Margaret Mahoney. He was a proud graduate of St. Nicholas of Tolentine High School in the Bronx. Tommy attended the New York Institute of Technology on a basketball scholarship, reflecting both his athletic talent and lifelong love of sports.
Tommy worked as a custodian for the Pearl River School District for 22 years, where he was known for his friendly nature, warm smile, and willingness to help anyone he met.
A true sports enthusiast, Tommy had a deep passion for athletics. He especially enjoyed following Notre Dame Athletics and listening to The Pat McAfee Show. Earlier in life, he served as a camp counselor for Julius “Dr. J.” Irving and was active as an umpire, further reflecting his enduring connection to sports.
Above all, Tommy had a great wit and was deeply devoted to his family. He will be remembered for his humor and the warmth he brought into the lives of all who knew him.
He is survived by his daughter, Caragh McGrath; his sister, Ann McGrath; his brother, Edward McGrath and his wife, Kathy; his sister-in-law, Mary McGrath; and many loving nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents, John and Margaret McGrath; his brother, John McGrath; and his sister, Eileen Doran.
Visitation will be held at Wyman Fisher Funeral Home on Monday, January 5, from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday at St. Aedan’s R.C. Church in Pearl River. Cremation will be private.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Thomas’s memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or the Tunnel to Towers Foundation.
