Thomas Conway Markham of Pearl River, NY, transitioned into everlasting life on November 27, 2023. He is survived by his wife of 51 years Christine (Turski); his daughter Jennifer (Christopher Penrod), and his granddaughter Mackenzie. Predeceased by his youngest sister Margaret (Jeff Carter), Tom is also survived by his sisters Susan (Quinn Orr), Mary (Steve Sagers), and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was 75.
A Bills fan forever, Tom was Born in Buffalo, New York, on December 18, 1947, to Richard and Margaret Markham. He earned his bachelor’s degree from Alfred University and loved to tell the story of how he met his wife on spring break during his senior year of college.
A patriot all of his life, those of us that knew Tom well, know how be believed in service to our country. He served three tours of duty as an intelligence analyst United States Army, 5th Special Forces Group (Airborne, Green Beret) from 1968-1970 and continued his service to country as a Past Commander of the American Legion, Post 329 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 851. A member of the Vietnam Veterans of America and the Disabled Veterans of America, Tom was named Veteran of the Year in 2001.
Tom and Christine were fortunate to have experienced 51 years of marriage, a journey that started in Daytona, and included hundreds of holiday drives to Schenectady or Hamburg. He could talk forever about their two trips of a lifetime: the first to the Old Course, St. Andrews, Scotland; the last to Pebble Beach Golf Links on the Monterey Peninsula.
A financial planner by trade, Tom retired from Myles Financial Services, Warwick, NY, after thirty years.
Locally Tom served as a girls’ little league softball coach, volunteered for Special Olympics, and was a communicant of St. Aedan’s Church. He belonged to Blue Hill Golf Course and Old Tappan Golf Course where he worked as a starter in his retirement.
Always humble, always thoughtful, Tom loved his family, his country, and his God.
We are not ready to say goodbye. But we send him off proudly to be with those who have gone before.
