Theresa A Mathews

Theresa A. Mathews, a 52-year resident of Pearl River, NY, passed away peacefully on October 19, 2025.

Born on March 3, 1930, in the Bronx, NY, to Patrick and Alice Rice, Theresa devoted her life to her family and to creating a warm, welcoming home for all who knew her. She was a loving and dedicated wife to her late husband, John, and a cherished mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

Theresa will be remembered for her boundless kindness, her ability to make everyone feel like family, and the way she opened her heart and home to friends and neighbors alike. To many of her children’s friends, she was like a second mother. She was also known for her beautiful singing voice and her talent for baking—especially her famous crumb cake that was loved by all.

She is survived by her daughters,  Kathleen Schell and her husband Bill, of Mahopac NY, Christina Sommers of Pearl River, NY; her son, Sean Mathews and his wife, Ellen, of Wyckoff, NJ; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Theresa’s love, generosity, and joyful spirit will live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know her.

She is predecessor by her husband John and her daughter Maureen Huegel.
