Theresa Carway

Theresa Carway, passed away on July 1, 2021, at her home, surrounded by her children and grandchildren. She was born on April 19, 1934 in the Bronx, NY to the late William and Bridget Rogers(nee Brennan). She was the middle child of 5 children; the late Ann, William Rogers, Marion McLaughlin and Stephen Rogers. She was raised in Holy Cross parish, Harding Park, Bronx, NY.

She graduated from Baruch College with a B.S. in economics. Her first career was teaching, followed by becoming a licensed broker in a financial brokerage firm. She retired from her last career which was an administrator in a law firm.

She is predeceased by her beloved husband, Charles Carway of 41 years (1999) and raised her 6 children in the Woodlawn section of the Bronx : Theresa McGeever, (Kevin), Christine Howard,(the late Michael),  Charles Carway, (Silvana), John Carway,(Andrea), Deirdre Heffernan, (Noel) and Tara Hooker, (Daniel). Theresa was a true matriarch as the proud grandmother to 20 grandchildren and great grandmother to 4 great grandchildren.

She moved to Pearl River, NY in 2008 to be near her daughters and quickly became involved in the community. She was an active member of LAOH Division 3, the Pearl River senior citizens club and Pearl River Public Library book club.

As a child, Theresa took Irish dance and violin lessons and instilled her love of Irish music in her children and grandchildren. A few of her granddaughters were playing the harp at her bedside when she was passing. She was also an avid traveler who ventured to several countries through-out Europe and North Africa and took a college class in Paris.  She also went on many trips with the NYPD Pipes and Drums band including Australia, with her husband who was an NYPD detective.

Theresa will be remembered by many as an intelligent, well-read, impeccably dressed, classy, vivacious woman with a big heart. She will be sorely missed by her children, grandchildren, siblings, nieces, nephews and friends.

Theresa will be waked at Wyman Fisher Funeral Home, 100 Franklin Avenue, Pearl River, NY on 7/6/21 from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. Her funeral will be at St. Aedan’s Church, 23 Reld Drive, Pearl River, NYon 7/7/21 at 10:00 AM. The interment will be at the Cemetery of the Gate of Heaven, 10 West Stevens Avenue, Valhalla, NY.
