Tara Kenny Obituary

Tara (Healy) Kenny was born at Good Samaritan Hospital in Suffern, NY, on January 15, 1968. She passed away during the early hours of Friday, November 11th 2022.  On that day she was surrounded by her family and close friends who whispered words of comfort.

Tara was raised in Pearl River, NY, where she was a lifelong resident. She attended and graduated from St. Margaret of Antioch School, Pearl River High School, and the College of Mount St. Vincent in Bronx, NY.  After graduating from college and obtaining a full-time job, Tara later received a diploma in Paralegal Studies from NYU.

Our sweet, beloved Tara endured a long, tough 13-year battle with breast cancer, before coming to rest.  Her loving husband Niall was a rock for her throughout their marriage, including her cancer journey; his sacrifices and efforts are too numerous to mention.  Tara also benefitted from an amazing network of friends and family… true angels who visited with her, provided comfort and insights, and held her hand through the most difficult and precious of times.  We are eternally grateful for those acts of kindness.

Tara is best described as kind, empathetic, gregarious, and hilarious. She always put others before herself.  If you were ever having a down day, Tara was a terrific antidote; she showered people with sincere compliments and unconditional love.  Tara made you feel like you could conquer the world after connecting with her! She cared little about material items, but instead focused on being generous to others, especially her beloved nephews and nieces, along with the children of other family and friends. Children were naturally drawn to her, a testament to her authentic, loving spirit. Tara served as a mother figure to many, always helping out when needed. She forged very strong relationships with everyone she knew, and provided support and encouragement on an ongoing basis. She was a loyal friend, sticking with people through thick and thin.  If you ever had the pleasure of spending time with Tara, you were guaranteed to laugh out loud; it was high comedy, 24/7!  Wainscott, NY, and Killarney, County Kerry, Ireland held special places in Tara’s heart; she shared many wonderful and cherished memories with various cousins in the Spillane, Carbery, and Healy families throughout the years. Tara was also a devout Catholic, who let the teachings of Jesus Christ provide the roadmap for how she lived her life – and what a wonderful role model she was for us all!

Tara is survived by her husband Niall Kenny, parents Michael Stephen Healy, Anne (Carbery) Healy, siblings Sean Healy, his wife Liz (McKiernan) Healy, and their children:  Caitlin (Healy) Hahn and husband Scott, Sean Jr., Liam, & Aidan;  Liam Healy, his wife Roseanne (Loftus) Healy, and their children: Conor and fiancé Cassidy O’Sullivan, Maeve, Shane, Quinn, & Ronan; Colleen Healy and her children: Ryan & Orlagh Ward; brother-in-law John Kenny, his wife Phyllis, and their children: Adam Kenny and Steven Kenny, as well as his partner Emma Kelly and their daughter Charlotte.

Finally, a sincere thank you to Tara’s caregivers who provided such compassion and the utmost professional service throughout her journey, including Good Samaritan Hospital, Nyack Hospital, Pine Valley Center for Rehabilitation and Nursing, and Joe Raso Hospice Residence.  In particular, the family is deeply indebted to Memorial Sloan Kettering for their world-class service and empathy displayed by their staff and oncology team over the past 13 years.
