Tara Healy Obituary

Tara Elizabeth Healy passed away on June 4th, 2023, at Hackensack University Medical Center after heart surgery. Tara was born on June 11th, 1953, in Manhattan, NY, the second of three children born to Andrew Kehoe Bentley and Naomi Claire Casey Bentley.

Tara began her career in 1976 at the Cerebral Palsy Center in Liberty, NY, Where she worked as a teacher for children with significant developmental disabilities.

Tara completed her undergraduate degree program at Rockland Community College School for Nursing after studying at Denver University. At the beginning of 1981 she began her nursing career at Nyack Hospital.

She also worked at Good Samaritan Hospital in Suffern NY and Englewood Hospital in Englewood NJ. In addition, she practiced Geriatric nursing at Elmwood Manor in Nanuet, NY. Tara taught Lamaze classes, where she helped prepare 100s of parents in care and delivery of their babies. She also made many critical care baby visits to educate and comfort new mothers whose babies had significant medical needs.

In 2005 she became certified as a Sexual Abuse Forensic Examiner (SAFE) nurse, one of the first in Rockland County. This work involved forensic examination and care for survivors of sexual assault. She was certified as an expert witness giving testimony in trials across NY State. Before retiring, she served for 15 years as the SAFE Program Coordinator training all new nurses. Tara enjoyed the challenge of all aspects of nursing throughout the course of career.

Tara enjoyed traveling, visiting Australia, Ireland, Germany, England, Holland and Belgium. She also spent many enjoyable weeks on Montauk Point, whale watching and eating the day's catch.

Tara loved and adored her family; each one was special to her. She had time for everyone and if she didn’t, she’d find it. Her 2 minutes were anywhere from 20 minutes to an hour! She was known for making a gallon of coffee and drinking about ½ cup each day!  Just as Tara loved her family, they love her still and we will all miss her terribly until we meet again.

Tara is survived by her husband of 50 years Thomas Healy, a son, Rory Healy (wife Melissa) and 3 grandchildren, Quinn , Shane and Liam. A daughter, Lauren Healy (husband William).  She is also survived by her sister, Kerry Rathbun (husband John) and their children, Tracy Anderson (husband David), Gretchen Harrington and Heather Schubert (husband Phillip). Also survived by her sister Casey Farsetta (husband Kean) and their children Chelsea Farsetta Oxx (husband Chris) Brittany Farsetta Russo (husband George).
