Susan Cosey Riegert Obituary

 Susan Ellen Cosey Riegert passed away peacefully on August 19, 2025, while under the care of Joe Raso Hospice facility in New City, NY. She was 78 years old. Susan was born in Nyack, NY on December 1, 1946 to the late Walter and Dorothy Hilton Cosey. After living a short time in Spring Valley, NY, the family moved to Pearl River, NY, where Susan attended St. Margaret's and graduated from Pearl River High School in 1964. She attended New Paltz and graduated from Pan America Art School in NYC, after which she worked as a commercial artist for various studios, along with doing freelance work.  She was married in 1973 to the late Steven Riegert, which ended in divorce. She worked for and retired after 29 years of service for the Clarkstown Central School District as a teaching assistant in special education. She truly enjoyed working with all the children who enhanced her life.
Susan is survived by her beloved daughter, Heidi (Riegert) Gwilt, and her husband Stephen, along with her cherished grandsons, Brady and Tanner Gwilt, all of Cicero, NY. She is also survived by numerous cousins and many loving and loyal friends, and her cat Tinkerbell.
As a great lover of nature and animals, in lieu of flowers, donations in Susan's memory would be appreciated either to Four Legs Good PO Box 103 Pomona, NY 10970, or to Defenders of Wildlife at 1130 17th NW, Washington, DC 20036-4604.
A wake will be held at Wyman-Fisher Funeral Home, 100 Franklin Ave., Pearl River, NY, on Friday, August 22, 2025, from 4-7pm, with a funeral service on Saturday, August 23, 2025, starting at 10am, with burial to follow at Oak Hill Cemetery, Nyack, NY.
