Shirley (Hong Fong Lee) Jung, 87, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 11, 2025, born in Hoi San of Canton, China, on October 3, 1937. At the age of 9, she moved to the United States with her mother (Tuey King Chin Lee), while her father (Wai Sheng Lee) had arrived earlier to join the US Army. Tragically, her father passed away when Shirley was still young, and at that time, she stepped up to help her mother run the family’s laundry business while also caring for her five younger siblings: Theodore (Lily) Lee, Evelyn (Tony) Rivera, Susan (Herman) Moy, Helen (George) Chee, and in memory Betty (Michael) Lui.
Instead of continuing her education, Shirley chose to enter the workforce after high school to support her family during a challenging time. Her selflessness and commitment to those she loved were evident from an early age.
Shirley married Franklin Wing Jung, and together, they built a loving and lasting partnership that spanned over 42 years until Franklin's death in 2000. They were blessed with three children—Jeffrey (in memory Virginia), Stephen (S. Y. Sue Ann) and Kristine (Danny) Chow—and later delighted in the addition of five grandchildren—Justin, Ashley (Ted) Hadges , Cody (Amelia), Austin, and Olivia.
Her home was a haven for family, where everyone felt welcome. The kitchen was the heart of the house, always filled with the comforting aromas of her delicious cooking. Shirley’s laughter was never far behind, echoing through the rooms as she created a warm and loving atmosphere. She had a unique and special bond with her grandchildren. They would gather around her eagerly, waiting for stories or help with crafts, all the while being spoiled with treats and showered with her endless love and advice.
Shirley’s wisdom, kindness, and love were immeasurable. She made sure those around her always knew how deeply they were cherished. Her spirit, her joy, and the way she made everyone feel special will be carried with us forever as we remember the way her heart overflowed with love.
