Sandra Colodner Obituary

Sandra Colodner passed aways peacefully at home on March 12th surrounded by family. Sandra was born in Brooklyn NY on Sept 29, 1935, to Abraham and Anne (Grossman) Green.  Sandra moved to Pearl River, NY in 1957 to raise her family where she resided for over 66 years.

After raising her 3 boys, Sandra completed her NY State Teaching degree at Dominican College in Blauvelt NY, and became a Science teacher at Washington Irvington Middle School in Tarrytown NY until retirement in 2001.  She also earned a master’s degree in Criminal Justice which she was very proud of and was very involved with various organizations and the criminal justice systems.

Sandra cared deeply for her family, friends, and community.  She did this not out of obligation, but because of who she was.  She was a Cub Scout Den mother, a founding member and Chairperson of the Pearl River Communications Council, Member of the Eyes of Orangetown, The Rockland County Youth Board, Orangetown Youth Court, and Tarrytown Youth Court.  She was Vice President of the “Friends” of the Pearl River Library, Charter member of Beth Am Temple in Pearl River, and longtime member of the Pearl River Senior Club.   Sandra received many awards including the Rockland County Sheriffs award, Tarrytown Rotary Club, Orangetown Police, and Tarrytown Police award.

Sandra is survived by her beloved children, daughter-in-law Susan Colodner of Hopewell Junction NY, son David, and daughter-in-law Sandra of Powhattan Virginia, son Michael and daughter-in-law Linda of Pearl River NY, cherished grandchildren Erica, Alex, Carrie, Laura, Jonathan, Daniel, Melissa, Stephen, Jamie and adored great grandchildren Maya and Max, brother Harvey and many nieces and nephews.  She was predeceased by her loving son Alan Colodner and granddaughter Jaqueline Colodner.

Sandra loved traveling, knitting, dancing, reading, cooking, and spending time with her friends and especially her family.  Sharing stories about growing up in Brooklyn and the Bronx, along with showing others her cooking prowess brought joy to her and all those she loved.   She cherished her grandchildren and loved having “grandma” day when they were young, and would take them out for lunch, ice cream, and a trip to the craft/hobby and Bookstore.  Her most recent joys were becoming a Great Grandma (Bubbe) and was extremely proud of her grandchildren and the individuals they have all become...

Sandra touched many lives and will be deeply missed by everyone that knew her.

A Funeral Services will be held 9:00 AM Friday at Beth AM Temple in Pearl River, NY.
