Ruth DeVries

Ruth K. DeVries of Chestnut Ridge, NY formerly of Pearl River, NY passed away on Friday, July 21, 2023 at The Fellowship Community, in Chestnut Ridge. She was 94.

Mrs. DeVries worked at Lederle Labs in Pearl River and Rockland Community College.

Ruth was born December 9, 1928 in Franklin, Indiana to Curtis and Fern (Smith) Kirklin.

She was educated in Franklin and graduated from Franklin College in 1950  with a Bachelors degree in Chemistry.

Locally, she was a member of the Nauraushaun Presbyterian Church.  As a teenager she was a volunteer for the USO. 

Ruth will be remembered as a loving wife and mother.  At the Fellowship she enjoyed teaching stained glass and quilting. She volunteered in South America with Habitat of Humanity and Hospice. 

She is survived by her husband, Evan DeVries; her children Curt Tesar, Ann Tesar, Carolyn Walsh, Joyce Tesar and Gail Martindale and one grandchild. 

Visiting will be held from 3 PM- 6 PM Saturday July 22 and 1PM- 6PM Sunday July 23 at The Fellowship Community 241 Hungry Hollow Road Chestnut Ridge, NY. A service will be held 11:00 AM Monday at The Fellowship Community in Chestnut Ridge followed by a Funeral Service at 2:00 PM at the Nauraushaun Presbyterian Church, Sickletown.  Road, Pearl River. 

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Nauraushaun Presbyterian Church or the Fellowship Community.
