Rose Egan, 94, also known affectionately as Nanny, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by her family in Orangeburg, New York on February 27th, 2023.
Rose was born to the late Ellen and Thomas Matthews on July 30th, 1928 in Cavan, Ireland. Rose was the eighth of nine children. She graduated from Cullies High School in 1943. She arrived in America in 1957 and lived in New York City where she met her husband, the late Christopher Egan. They married and settled in the Bronx where they raised their 5 children, Christine, Johnny, Kevin, Kathleen, and Richard.
Rose is survived by her three children: Christine Egan, of Central Valley, Kevin Egan of Highland Mills, and Richard Egan of Orangeburg. She is also survived by her 10 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. Rose was predeceased by her loving husband Christopher Egan in 1978, her son Johnny Egan in 2003, followed by her daughter Kathleen Egan-Bacchione in 2016.
Rose worked at J.P. Morgan Chase in the executive dining room in New York City and retired in 1997 at the age of 69. Rose lived at Brightview Senior Living for the last 4 years and before that she lived in Yonkers for 20 years where she is remembered fondly by her community.
The family thanks the residents and staff at Brightview Senior Living who assisted Rose in living a full life her last four years. Their kind and compassionate care was greatly appreciated in her last days. No words could express our gratitude.
Visitation will be held on Thursday March 2nd, 2023 from 4-8pm at Wymen-Fisher funeral home in Pearl River, New York. Funeral services will be held Friday March 3rd, 2023 at 10 Am at St. Catherine’s Church in Blauvelt, New York, followed by the burial service at Mount Hope Cemetery in Hasting on Hudson, Westchester.
