Rose M. Callanan (nee Finnegan) of Pearl River, NY passed away suddenly, but peacefully, surrounded by her loving family on June 12, 2023 at the age of 83. In her passing, Rose is reunited with her husband Dan of 58 years, and their beloved son Danny.
Rose was born in Manhattan on February 7, 1940 to Bridget and John Finnegan, she was the oldest of three children. The family moved to the Kingsbridge section of the Bronx. After graduating from St. John’s Elementary School, Rose went on to attend and graduate from Aquinas High School. On October 20, 1962 Rose married the love of her life Daniel Callanan, and the couple was blessed with 7 children. In 1969, Rose and Dan moved their family from the Bronx to Pearl River, where they made amazing life-long friends. Rose was active in St. Margaret’s Church and School, and enjoyed nothing more over the years than spending time with family and friends. Along with Dan, their children, and 19 grandchildren, Rose enjoyed a busy “family calendar” including a ton of birthday parties, various holiday celebrations, random and frequent family get togethers, and big family vacations each summer at Ocean Beach, and LBI. Along with this, Rose’s “social calendar” was quite busy as well. She and her friends, affectionately known as “the Shady Ladies”, enjoyed summers at the Nauraushaun Swim Club, weekly lunches “out and about” and regular trips to NYC and beyond. She cherished daily morning visits with her brother Pat.
Rose is survived by her children Jeanne(Ivan) Sarda, Kathleen(Eddie) Walker, Maureen(Ed) Carey, Christine(Tom) Henry, John(Mary Lynn), and Tim(Mary Jo); and 19 grandchildren: Christopher, Caroline, Kevin, Danny, Sean, Brian, Ben, Bridget, Michael, Brendan, Daniel, Jack, Julia, Marykate, Johnny, Rosie, Maeve, Kiera, and Timmy; her brother Pat Finnegan, and many cousins, nieces and nephews, and in-laws. Rose was predeceased by her brother Johnny.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Saturday, June 17th, at St. Margaret’s Roman Catholic Church, in Pearl River. Visiting is Friday, June 16th, from 3 to 8 p.m. at Wyman-Fisher Funeral Home in Pearl River. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Rose’s name to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, or Tunnel 2 Towers Foundation, as she was a proud supporter of both organizations
