Ronald Lewis Obituary

Ronald O. Lewis, of Bethany, Pennsylvania, formerly of Blauvelt and Pearl River, New York, passed away on January 27, 2026. He was 96 years old.

Ronald was born on August 29, 1929, in Nyack, New York, to Oliver and Claudia Heing Lewis. He was educated in the Nyack school system and grew up in Blauvelt, New York.

He proudly served his country in the United States Army from February 1947 to July 1948. Following his military service, Ronald returned home and began building his life and family. In 1951, he built his home in Pearl River, New York, where he lived for many years.

Ronald worked for the Orangetown Sewer Department in Orangetown, New York, until his retirement. He was known as a hardworking and dependable employee who took pride in providing for his family.

A man dedicated to service, Ronald was a proud member of the Pearl River Hook and Ladder Fire Company. He later moved to North Carolina, where he continued his commitment to public service, rising through the ranks to become a Captain in the Roanoke Fire Department. He and his wife were members of the Coast Guard Auxiliary.  In later years, he and his wife moved to Pennsylvania.

He will be remembered as a devoted and loving husband, a father who always tried his best to raise his children, Ruth Orfini, Robert Lewis, and James Lewis, and a loyal friend. Ronald deeply loved his grandchildren. Though he was not always able to see them as often as he wished, his home was filled with photographs of them, a reflection of how close they remained in his heart. He enjoyed flying.  He flew small planes when he was younger, but later, when he moved to North Carolina, he restarted the hobby, flying with friends. He flew his last plane at 91 years old.

He is also survived by 10 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.  He is predeceased by his wife, Alvina Smellager Lewis, and his grandson, Timothy Lewis.
