Robert Henry Vatter of Pearl River, NY, passed away on November 23, 2023 after a short illness.
Mr. Vatter was born in the Bronx to Edna and Frederick Vatter on February 4, 1934, where he resided for his early life. Mr. Vatter graduated from Stuyvesant High School and New York University. Mr. Vatter spent most of his career at MetLife, working as a Vice-President and economist. Although he was proud of his professional achievements, Mr. Vatter would prefer to be remembered as a man who gave 100% to everything and everyone.
Mr. Vatter was a man of strong faith and a longtime member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Pearl River. His faith was very important to him and he was a very active member of the church throughout the years.
A very special place to Mr. Vatter was Dominican University of Blauvelt, where he was a professor and also served on the Board of Trustees. Education was very important to Mr. Vatter and he took great joy in being part of the educational journey of many students.
Mr. Vatter would tell anyone who would listen that he became the luckiest man in the world when he met his soulmate, Margie. They were married on October 11, 1958 at Our Savior Lutheran Church and were inseparable for almost 62 years. Their love story is better than any fairytale that has ever been told. The family takes comfort that they have been reunited in heaven.
Mr. Vatter’s favorite pastime was fishing, a hobby that he passed down to his son, nephews, nieces, and grandchildren. He also loved to travel, visiting almost every state and over forty countries.
What meant the most to Mr. Vatter was family. Mr. Vatter is survived by his son, Robert Q. and his daughter-in-law, Eileen of Pearl River. Mr. Vatter is also survived by his three grandchildren and two bonus grandchildren: Robert W. and Cai of New York City, Kaitlyn of New York City, and Chris and Meghan of Barnegat, NJ. He loved the grandchildren’s pets and took great joy in spoiling them. He is also survived by many other family members and friends who loved him dearly. He is predeceased by his wife, Margie, and his brother, Fred.
