Robert Kreider Obituary

Robert Gerard “Bob” Kreider, 93, passed away peacefully on August 28, 2025, at Calvary Hospital in the Bronx, NY.

Born on December 20, 1931, in Pelham Bay, Bronx, Bob was the youngest of four brothers. He met his future wife, Mary “May” Kreider, also from Pelham Bay, and they were married on June 7, 1958, at Our Lady of the Assumption Church. Together, they began their 67-year love story in the Bronx, before settling in Pearl River, NY, in 1970, where they raised their five children.

Bob graduated from Power Memorial High School in Manhattan, and then proudly served in the United States Navy during the Korean War.  In 1955, he joined the New York Police Department (NYPD) and while working full-time, attended Manhattan College at night through the GI Bill, graduating with a degree in Accounting.  In 1986, after 31 years of dedicated service, Bob retired from the NYPD as a highly decorated and honored Detective Sergeant.

A lifelong New York Giants fan, Bob held season tickets dating back to the Polo Grounds, Yankee Stadium, the Yale Bowl, and finally, at Giants Stadium, where he and his “salad dressing” were a fixture in Section 332—affectionately known as “The Zoo in 332.” Attending the games with his family and lifelong friends was one of his true joys in life, an experience so special that it was captured and shared with the readers of The Journal News in a 1994 feature article.

Bob’s life is best defined by a fierce devotion to his family, loyalty to friends, devout faith, and distinguished career in public service. A protector at his core, he will be remembered for his unwavering commitment to those he loved, always willing to do anything and everything in support of his family and friends.  He was loved by many and will be missed by all.

Bob is survived by his five children: Maureen, Robert Jr. (Jessica), Terrence, Timothy (Kelly), and Matthew (Jennifer); and eight beloved grandchildren: Tim Jr. (Katelyn), Cameron (Alyssa), Catherine, Kieran, Molly, Jenna, Casey, and Delilah. He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Mary; his parents, Thomas Kreider, Sr. and Sarah (née McCorry); his brothers, Thomas Jr., Terrence (Teddy), and James; and his great-grandson, Christian Cooper Kreider.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 3, 2025, from 4 PM to 7 PM at Wyman-Fisher Funeral Home, 100 Franklin Ave., Pearl River, NY.
