Robert (Bob) John Ciarelli of Fultonham, NY was previously a longtime resident of Pearl River, NY. He died on November 17th, 2023 at his home residence in Fultonham. He was 87 years old. Robert John Ciarelli was born on October 16th, 1936 in The Bronx, NY to Oswald and Palma (D’Alesio) Ciarelli. He served in the Army and truly valued the American Flag and the American Eagle. Afterwards, he discovered the beauty of the Catskill Mountains. At a young age, Bob purchased land in Gilboa, NY where he would love to hunt, fish, and work on the property. Later on, he sold the property in Gilboa and bought his second home in Fultonham, NY. Bob loved the country (aka: “Upstate”) so much, that he spent his weekends and every vacation “upstate.” Upstate was the most beautiful and best place in the world!!!
Bob was an extremely hard worker. He had his own construction business whose motto was “you build as if you are building for yourself.” Anyone he taught whether it was in the construction industry or daily living skills, he would engrain his motto to ensure superb work ethics and pride. Those work ethics carried down to his children. Bob eventually moved away from construction and worked for the Spring Valley Water Company. After 32 years, he retired from the water company to enjoy retirement with his wife Ann.
Bob was a very generous, kind and caring person. He would do anything for his family, friends and people he just met. If he had only $1.00 in his pocket and you needed it, it was yours! If you needed a roof over your head, he made sure you had one. He was a man of many traits…. he loved to garden, work in the yard, go horseback riding, work on cars, machines, enjoyed history, law and spending time with family and friends, especially the holidays. He was always in charge of cooking the 7 fishes for Christmas Eve and then too tired to enjoy the food he cooked. One of his favorite traditions was cooking linguini and clams for the hunters the night before opening day!
Bob is survived by his daughter, Palma (Ciarelli) Florio and husband Richard, son George Ciarelli and wife Wendy; daughter-in-law, Susan (Doyle) Ciarelli; Grandchildren: Kacie and Gillian Ciarelli, Dominic Florio, Matthew, Nicolas and Lilianna Ciarelli; sister-in-law, Jean (Buonanno) Acocella and husband Vincent, and many nieces and nephews, as well as friends near and far. Bob was predeceased by his parents, Oswald and Palma (D’Alesio) Ciarelli, wife Ann (Buonanno) Ciarelli, son Robert Francis Ciarelli, brother Lawrence Ciarelli, sister Elizabeth (Ciarelli) Lehan, and brother-in-law Charles Buonanno.
