Richard “Dick” Whelan, 95, of Monroe, NY passed away peacefully on November 2nd 2022.
Richard was born Feb 24,1927 in East Greenville, PA to Arthur & Mary Whelan. He was raised by Harvey & Katie Moyer.
He proudly served his country in the US Navy during WW2. His ship, the LST 806 was assigned to the Asiatic-Pacific theater and participated in the Palawan Island landings. After the war, Richard worked as a Machinist for Dexter Folders Co. Pearl River NY. When the factory shut down, he became employed at the Pearl River Hotel in 1972 as a bartender and worked 48 years behind the bar. Known by his nickname “Dick”, many would tell you he was a true gentleman, loved to tell stories and always had a smile on his face.
Richard was a dedicated grandfather, he treasured his time with Christine and embraced every moment. He especially loved his role as Great Grandpa.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Doris Kavanagh Whelan, and daughter Rosalind Metress. He is survived by his Granddaughter Christine Cameron (William), great Granddaughter Eleanor Cameron & son-in-law Robert Metress.
Richard will be remembered for his wisdom, his class and good jokes.
He will be sorely missed by all.
