Raymond Dertinger Obituary

Raymond Dertinger, of Dagsboro, Delaware, formerly of Pearl River and Tappan, New York, passed away on May 31, 2025, at the age of 71.

Born on December 10, 1953, to the late John and Harriet (Migge) Dertinger, Ray grew up in Pearl River, NY, where he graduated from Nanuet High School in 1971. Shortly after, he answered the call to serve his country in the United States Navy from 1972 to 1975. A proud Vietnam War veteran, he attained the rank of ADJ2 (E5).

Following his military service, he attended St. Thomas Aquinas College in Blauvelt, NY, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree. Ray worked for over 30 years as a dedicated postal clerk for the United States Postal Service in Blauvelt, NY, until his retirement.

He was a proud life member of the Excelsior Fire Engine Company in Pearl River, where he served as a line officer for many years. He was also an active member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7370, also in Pearl River. His commitment to service, both in uniform and in his community, left a lasting mark on those around him.

Ray had a love for the water and was happiest spending time with friends aboard his beloved boat, the Naked Dancer, cruising the Hudson River near Croton-on-Hudson. He also enjoyed the great outdoors, camping with family and friends. Ray enjoyed time with his "Little Adventure Munchkins," making memories that they will have for a lifetime. He loved his MPC community and the amazing neighbors he shared good times with at the pool and his home, whom he cherished dearly. He was known for his warm heart, generous spirit, and the camaraderie he shared with family and friends.

Ray is survived by the love of his life, Susan Booth; his sisters Doris (Lenny) Doherty of Congers, NY; Jeanne (Tom) Urban of West Springfield, MA; Rosemary (James) Stryker of Seneca, SC; Alice Gass of Highland Falls, NY; Kathryn (Eddie) Duffy of Myrtle Beach, SC; Nancy (Gregg) Barron of Tampa, FL; and Laura Dertinger of Pearl River, NY; and his brother Paul (Terri) Dertinger of Pearl River, NY.

He also leaves behind Robert Booth and his wife, Marissa, and their son, Alex; Christine Booth; and Mike Reynolds and their children, Michael, Riley, and Hunter. He will be remembered by  Jimmy and Marge Riley, Nancy Edlund, Carol Riley, Joan Will, and many nieces and nephews.

Ray is predeceased by his parents, John and Harriet, as well as his brothers, John Dertinger and Thomas Dertinger, and other family members, Michael Will, Dwight Edlund Sr, Barbara, and John Riley.

Ray’s legacy of service, love for the water and camping, and dedication to family, friends, and country will be remembered with deep gratitude and affection by all who knew him.
