Phyllis Finnegan a long-time resident of Pearl River, NY passed away on Sunday, July 30, 2023 at Good Samaritan Hospital. She was 82.
Mrs. Finnegan worked as a Registered Nurse at St. James Hospital in Newark, NJ and for Mary Immaculate Hospital in Queens, NY. She worked as a nurse for 6 years before retiring in 1967, having put her husband through law school.
Phyllis was born September 17, 1940 in Newark, NJ to Peter V. Ryan and Anna McCabe.
She was educated in Newark and graduated from St. Mary’s School of Nursing in Orange, NJ in 1961 where she earned an Associate Degree in Nursing.
Mrs. Finnegan lived in Pearl River for the past 52 years. Before that, she lived in Queens form 1963-1971 and in Newark from 1940 to 1963.
Mrs. Finnegan will be remembered for Thanksgiving dinner with the whole family, traveling the world with her beloved husband, vacationing at her home on St. Thomas, USVI, and spending time with her husband, children and grandchildren.
She is survived by her beloved husband of 59 years and 11 months, Tim Finnegan; her three daughters, Diane Dorothy (husband Todd), Nancy Finnegan, and Catherine David (husband Brice); four beloved grandchildren, Caroline David, Colin Dorothy, Isabella David and Erin Dorothy; her sister, Ann Marie Schaefer and brother Hon, Peter V. Ryan; nephews and nieces, Michael Schaefer (wife Joyce), Susan Schaefer, Timothy Schaefer (wife Denise), Gregory Schaefer (wife Donna), Eileen Schaefer (husband Tom), Jennifer Galan (husband John), Kristine Demareski (husband Roger), Pam Ryan (husband Jack) and many great and great great nephews and nieces. She is predeceased by her parents, Peter and Anna Ryan, brother-in-law, George Schaefer and sister-in-law, Eileen Ryan.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held 10:00 am Thursday, at St. Aedan R. C. Church, Pearl River. Visiting is Wednesday, form 2 to 4 pm and 6 to 8 pm at Wyman-Fisher Funeral Home Inc.
