Obituary

Patrick G Lenihan age 73 of Pearl River, NY, passed away peacefully in Wilmington, NC on February 13, 2021.  Pat was born on September 19, 1947 in the Bronx, NY to Patrick and Nora (Hayes) Lenihan.  He was proud of his Bronx upbringing and attended St. Jerome Elementary School, All Hallows High School, and earned his bachelor’s degree from Lehman College.  Pat enlisted in the United States Navy and honorably served on the USS Douglas H. Fox.  After completing his naval service, Pat joined the New York Police Department.  Most of his time with the NYPD was spent in the 42nd Pct. and on the Yankee Stadium Detail.  After 32 years and making lifelong friends, Pat retired from the NYPD in 2002 at the rank of Lieutenant.  For over thirty years, Pat also worked as a pall bearer for several funeral homes in Rockland County.

Pat was a social person who loved his family and friends.  He had a great sense of humor and enjoyed making people laugh.  Pat loved the Jersey Shore and spent much of the summer there with his girlfriend Patricia Magee.  He was an active member of the Pearl River Elks and belonged to the Rockland County Shields.  He loved having a few laughs with friends at the Elks after a double bogey filled round of golf.  Later in life, Pat’s greatest passion was spending time with his grandchildren.

Pat is predeceased by his parents, his brother Michael, his girlfriend of thirty years Patricia Magee, and godson Michael Brennan.  He is survived by his sister Helen (Hugh) Brennan of Mahopac NY; sons Patrick (Denise) Lenihan and Brian Lenihan of Pearl River NY; grandchildren Connor and Allison; his many nieces, nephews, and cousins; dear friends William and Janie Kernochan and former wife and friend Noreen Lenihan.

Visiting hours will be at Wyman Fisher Funeral Home in Pearl River on Friday from 3-7pm.  A Mass of Christian burial will be on Saturday, 10am at St. Aedan’s RC Church in Pearl River.  Burial to follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Hawthorne, NY.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Boomer Esiason Foundation in memory of Michael Brennan.
