Patricia Lord O'Hara

Patricia Lord O’Hara of New City passed away on January 21,2021 at the ripe old age of 91. She was born in Waterbury CT to James and Mary (Hayes) Lord on June 28, 1929. Pat graduated from The College of St Elizabeth in Convent Station, NJ. She was a Kindergarten teacher for over 40 years, the last 30 at St. Piux X School in Scarsdale, NY. She retired to New City after living in Scarsdale for over 50 years.

Pat met her husband, John “Jack” O’Hara on a blind date in 1950. They were married in 1952 and shared 64 wonderful years together. Above all, they loved spending time with their family and vacationed together along the Jersey shore each summer. In recent years, they had moved to Sunrise Assisted Living in New City. She always remarked about the excellent care given to her husband, Jack, and then that same care that she grew to need herself. Her “aides” became her friends and she cared about all of them deeply. Many of them recalled lessons they had learned from her, being a teacher right to the end. 

Pat is survived by her children, Patti Tierney (Jim) and Jim O’Hara (Peggy). She was adored by her grandchildren: Meghan Tierney, Michaela Tierney Wechter (Keith), and Nora Tierney: Matt (Rebecca), Brian, and Erin O’Hara. Her great-grandchildren, Caitlin and Caroline O’Hara, and Elliott Wechter were everything to her. Pat’s husband, Jack, pre-deceased her in 2017 as well as her son, John III (Jack), his wife, Janet, and their daughter, Caitlin Marie in a tragedy in 1996.

Pat grew up in a large Irish family with seven children.  Surviving her are her sister, Mary Lord Dooley, and her brother, Jerome Lord, along with many nieces and nephews who loved her dearly.  Pre-deceasing Pat are her parents, James and Mary, and her siblings, James, George, Helen “Honey”, and Reverend Robert Lord.  There will be no formal service at this time; we anticipate holding a celebration of Pat’s life later in 2021.
