Patricia A (Allen) Tierney

Patricia A. Tierney (nee Allen), 83, beloved wife of the late Thomas J. Tierney, passed away on May 29th, 2024, in Philadelphia, PA. She was born on September 6, 1940, in Queens, New York. Daughter of the late Gladys Allen-Catalano (nee Heffernan) and stepdaughter to Richard A. Catalano.

Pat held various human services and social work positions in Rockland County, NY where she lived for 33 years. She was a member of the parish of St. Anthony's R. C. Church in Nanuet, NY. She relocated to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania where she was a resident for twenty plus years.

Pat went back to school part time after having her five beloved children to obtain her undergraduate degree from Rockland Community College & Dominican College of Blauvelt. She then went to receive her masters in social work from the Graduate School of Social Services of Fordham University. She was a proud long-time member of the National Association of Social Workers, the Academy of Certified Social Workers and held a QCSW credential.

Patricia was an extremely compassionate & kind individual, was steadfast in her beliefs and not afraid “to write them a letter” to express her feelings. Her interests included mental health, child protection, domestic violence, certified alcoholism counseling, current events, politics, equality between the races, humanitarianism and reducing stigmatization of both the AIDS/HIV epidemic and mental illness.

Pat was a woman before her time, she had a love of technology, purchased an apple computer, and whizzed her way around the internet in the early 2000’s. She was an avid reader of books, magazines, and the newspaper; she always saved clippings that were relevant to the people she loved. Pat enjoyed watching endless true crime stories, (“I like when the good guys win!”) with a cup of Tetley and crumb cake. There is nothing she loved more than being surrounded by her family. She will wholeheartedly and truly be missed. 

Patricia is survived by her children, Donna M. (Joseph) Geppner, Debra A. (Dean) Birth, Thomas “TRET” Tierney, Patricia A. "Babe" (Martin) Bernard and Michael J. C. (Seda) Tierney. Her grandchildren, Alexis Geppner, Tyler Birth (Heather Antos), Christine (Anthony) Morency, Martin "Bo" (Jacki) Bernard, Colin (Samantha) Birth, Ryan Bernard, Dennis Tierney and Aidan Tierney; her great granddaughters, Brynn Bernard and Nora Birth and many nieces and nephews, who she all adored.

Arrangements are through the Wyman-Fisher Funeral Home Pearl River, NY.

Visitation will be June 6 from 4pm to 8pm.

A Mass of Christian burial  will be held on June 7, at 10am at St. Anthony's R. C. Church in Nanuet NY.

Burial will follow at Frederick Loescher Veterans Memorial Cemetery in New Hempstead, NY.
