Ottilie Hansen Obituary

Ottilie A. Hansen of Nanuet, N.Y. passed away on Tuesday, January 15, 2019, at the Nyack Hospital, after a short illness, at the age of 100. She was cremated. She was born to Elizabeth and John Cosey on March 25, 1918 at her grandmother's house in Spring Valley. During those lean years, her grandmother was like a midwife and had delivered over 1000 babies.

She attended Pearl River High School and graduated with honors at the age of 17, landing a job at what was known back then as Lederele Labs in Pearl River. She lived in Pearl River until her marriage to Harry W. Hansen at which time they moved to Nanuet and raised two children. She and Harry were happily married for 65 years until his death in 2002.

She was a member of the Good Shepherd Church and volunteered many hours and years as a Board Officer for the AARP, Companions of the Forest, the Nanuet Senior Club 11, and the Restoration Committee of the Pearl River Cemetery, now known as the Pearl River Cemetery Corporation. She believed that to know an organization well you need to be on the Board as an officer. She was also a Rockland County Election Inspector for many years. She was known for her style of dress and for her warm personality. All who knew her loved her. Her warm caring spirit and shining aura automatically drew people to her. It's been said that if you had the opportunity to meet and know her, you would have a friend for life. Many have said, "She was one of a kind. It was an honor to know her." Her legacy will live on.

She was predeceased by her husband Harry, a brother, Walter Cosey of Pearl River, and two son-in-laws, George F. Vanasse and John J. Finnegan Jr.
Surviving her is her daughter, Christine Finnegan, a son, Bruce Hansen, and a granddaughter, Therese Vanasse. The family is requesting no flowers at this time. However, donations can be sent to Pearl River Cemetery Corp. at P.O. Box #804, Nanuet, NY 10954 or to NAMI-ROCKLAND (Nat. Alliance on Mental Illness) at P.0. Box 635, Orangeburg, NY 10962. A memorial service is planned for the spring of 2019.  Notification of the date and time and place of the service will be published at that time.
