Nora Murray Obituary

Nora V. Murray peacefully passed away on Friday, May 2, 2025 at  HMH Pascack Valley Medical Center in Westwood, NJ, surrounded by her loving family. She was 100 years young.

Nora was born in Manhattan, NY to Denis & Nora O’Leary Murphy.  Nora had 4 brothers & 3 sisters. When the Great Depression hit the United States, her father moved the family to County Cork, Ireland. Nora was raised in Ireland & moved back to New York in her twenties. On February 4, 1951 she married John P. Murray.

Nora has lived at the Jewish Home of Rockleigh,NJ for the past 18 months. Prior to that she resided at the Brightview Assisted Living in Orangeburg,NY.

Before that she lived in St Denis parish in Yonkers, NY from 1973-2018 & in Good Shepherd parish in the Inwood section of Manhattan, NY from 1951-1973. 

Nora was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, & mother-in-law. Nora always put her family first. She enjoyed sewing,cooking, & decorating her home. She enjoyed her annual summer trips to Ireland to escape the hot NY summer heat. Over the years, she did a lot of volunteer work in her parish of St. Denis in Yonkers, with the Senior citizens “Over 50 Club” as well as the many school functions at the St Denis school. She was a very sweet woman & would always end her conversations with “God Bless!”

She is survived by her children Dennis Murray(Linda),Margaret Flandera, Noreen Clerkin (Eugene), John P. Murray Jr., & Pamela Hyland (John)

Nora also leaves behind her grandchildren Christopher Murray(Lisa), Daniel Murray (Nicole), Christina Green (Billy), Michael Clerkin(Angelica), John Clerkin, Paul Rosato (Marisa), Nicole Dugan (John), Megan Hyland, & Grace Murray. She also leaves behind her great grandchildren Joseph, Brody, McKayla, Conor, & Madison Murray, Liam, & Keira Green, Eliana, Anastasia, & Nicholas Clerkin, Isabella Rosato, & Gabriella Dugan. She also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, & grand nieces & grand nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John P. Murray, daughter, Catherine, son, Kevin, sons-in-law, Barry Flandera, & John Hyland, as well as her parents, & 7 siblings. 

Our family would like to thank the wonderful staff at the Jewish Home of Rockleigh for their care, & the staff at Brightview Assisted Living. We especially want to thank the lovely ladies, Kathleen Donohue, Teresa O’Reilly, Janet Ginocchio, Cynthia Cassidy, & Maggie Coyne for their care & companionship that they gave our mom during her stay at the Jewish Home.
