Nels Ralph Nelson (known as Ralph) of Pearl River, New York passed away peacefully on March 12, 2021 at the age of 91.
He was born on February 2, 1930 to Nils Hugo and Olga Sarafia Nelson. He is survived by his loving wife Marilyn, of 67 years; his children, son, Steven and his wife Maritza; daughters, Lynn and her husband, Mark, and Beth and her husband, Bill and five grandchildren, Tasha, Benjamin, Jillian, Daniel and Zachary.
He served four years in the United States Navy on the Aircraft Carrier, The USS Coral Sea. He graduated from Upsala College in 1957 with a BS in Chemistry and had a long, satisfying career in the pharmaceutical industry. He was employed by Lederle Labs and Hoffman La Roche. Ralph was a very active member of the United Methodist Church for 60 years and sang in the choir for many of those years. He was also very active in the community including volunteering as an EMT, Meals on Wheels and the Boy Scouts. He was very proud of his Swedish heritage and kept connected with family in Sweden over the years.
Ralph was known for his love and generosity to all. He loved to camp and enjoyed photography all his life. Over the years Ralph and his wife Marilyn travelled extensively and camped in many of the National Parks. Most of all he loved his family and friends and truly knew how to enjoy and cherish the most out of each day.
There will be calling hours at Wyman-Fisher Funeral Home in Pearl River, NY on Wednesday, March 17, 2021 from 7 - 9pm. Funeral Services will be for immediate family only (due to the virus) on Thursday, March 18 at 10:30 am at Pearl River United Methodist Church, with burial to follow at Kensico Cemetery, 273 Lakeview Ave., Valhalla, NY.
