Michael Joseph Heaphy Jr. passed away peacefully at his home in Stony Point on October 30, 2022 with family by his side. He was 83.
Michael was born on June 24, 1939, in New York City to Irish immigrants Elizabeth Heaphy (nee Wallace), and Michael Joseph Heaphy, the youngest of four children. Raised in Queens, he and his family later relocated to Rockland County in 1974. He first served his country as a sailor in the Navy, and later as a police officer in NYC. The job he was most proud of was as a member of New York’s Bravest, first as a fireman and then as a Lieutenant in the FDNY. Michael was an active member of the community, belonging to The Knights of Columbus, The Elks and the Minnesceongo Yacht Club. Michael had a quick wit that entertained all, especially his grand and great-grandchildren. He never missed a ball game, recital, theater production or concert for his grandchildren if he could possibly attend. Family was the cornerstone of his life. He will be deeply missed.
Michael is survived by his wife of 60 years, Suzanne. He is also survived by his children and their spouses, Kathleen and Paul Triana, Patricia and Clifford Partridge, Michael Heaphy and Donna Blais, Margaret and Brian Barry, Patrick and Debra Heaphy, Kevin Heaphy, his sister, Elizabeth Devaney, ten grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He will also be missed by his many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers Thomas and John.
Visiting will take place on Thursday, November 3rd from 2:00pm-4:00pm and 6:00pm - 9:00pm at Wyman-Fisher Funeral Home in Pearl River. A mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday at 11:00 am at St. Gregory Barbarigo Catholic Church in Garnerville.
