Michael Joseph Diskin of Orangeburg died on December 1, 2020 at the age of 89. Michael worked as a splicer for The New York Telephone Company in New York City and was with the company for 35 years before retiring in 1991. He was an honorary lifetime member of the Communications Workers of America. Michael was born on September 6, 1931 in Carahakeen, Clonbur County Galway Ireland to Martin and Delia Diskin. He immigrated to the United States in 1956 where he lived with his beloved Aunt Kate Curran on the west side of New York City and shortly after moved to the Inwood section of Manhattan. He married the love of his life Josephine (nee McGovern) in 1965 and they raised their family surrounded by wonderful friends and neighbors in Inwood until 1996 when they moved to Rockland County living first in Pearl River and then settling in Orangeburg as a parishioner of Saint Catharine of Alexandra. Michael will be remembered for his ability to make everyone smile. He loved getting together with family and friends, playing Irish music and supporting the Galway Gaelic football team. He would light up the room with his humor and warmth. He is survived by his loving wife Josephine, his son Michael and daughter-in-law Debra, daughter Mary and son-in-law Tony, grandchildren Caitlin, Michael, Kylie and Anthony. He will be greatly missed by his many nieces and nephews and all of his in-laws in Ireland. He is predeceased by his brother John and sisters Mary and Kate. Calling hours are Sunday, December 6, 2020 from 3-5 and 7-9pm at Wyman-Fisher Funeral Home, 100 Franklin Avenue, Pearl River, NY 10965. A mass of Christian burial will be Monday at 10am at Saint Catharine of Alexandra, 523 Western Highway, Blauvelt, NY 10913. Interment will follow at Rockland Cemetery, 201 Kings Highway, Sparkill, NY 10976.
