Maureen A. Roe of Pearl River, NY, homemaker, and preschool teacher, passed away on September 2, 2023. Maureen was 85.
Mrs. Roe worked as a preschool teacher, school lunch attendant, and other jobs all relating to her three children (and pride and joy). She worked for Tall Pines preschool for many years and was a devoted member of the Catholic Church attending both St. Margaret’s and St. Aedan’s Church. Her children attended St. Margaret’s School, Albertus Magnus High School, and Pearl River High School.
Maureen was born October 12, 1937, in New York, NY to Catherine Mooney Cronin (Kate) and William Cronin (Buster). She was the youngest of three children along with her sister Nancy (deceased) and is survived by her older brother, Thomas. She went to school in the Bronx and continued her education with an administrative degree at the Grace Institute of America.
In February 1962, she married William Kenny (“Ken”) Roe at St. Margaret’s Church on Riverdale Avenue in The Bronx. The newly wed couple lived in the Bronx for the first several years of their marriage where all three of their children (Katherine, Kenny, and Michael) were born before moving to Stony Point, NY. After only a few years in Stony Point, they found their dream home in Pearl River. Maureen knew it was the perfect home for them when their neighbors, Bobby Muldoon and later, Evelyn Keane welcomed them graciously and their lifelong friendships began.
Locally, Maureen loved to attend church, dote on her children, and care for animals. Maureen would seek out strays to help care for them and may have even adopted one or two. Maureen will be remembered for her deep caring of others, especially her children, grandchildren, family, friends, and perhaps most of all, for her keen sense of humor.
Maureen is survived by her husband of 61 years, Ken Roe of Pearl River, NY; her three children Katherine Roe of Nyack, NY; Kenny Roe (Maria Parada) of New York, NY; Michael Roe (Brooke Roe) of Pearl River, NY, and her grandchildren Billy (Jacqueline Caifa), James and Elsie, as well as her brother, Thomas Cronin, several nieces and nephews, including Jean and John Franggos, Tom and Billy Roe, Valerie Cronin, and best friends, Barbara Martin and Mary Sugrue.
Family members who have previously passed include her parents, William and Catherine, her sister, Nancy, her nephew, James, and her niece Mary Kate.
There will be a Mass at St. Margaret of Antioch Catholic Church in Pearl River, NY on Thursday September 7, 2023, at 12:00 pm. A private, family interment will follow.
