A beloved mother, sister, and grandmother, Mary Lou Arfield (Macciocca) of Blauvelt, NY, passed away peacefully at home on February 3rd, 2025, one day after her 77th birthday. Mary Lou always had a smile on her face, she could light up a room with her positive energy. When she was around everything seemed to be better, she brought with her an aura of peacefulness. When she wasn’t making up funny songs to sing to her grandchildren, she would be dancing along to whatever song was on.
Mary Lou was born on February 2nd, 1948 to Louis and Inda (Hungerford) Macciocca in Suffern, NY. She is survived by her daughters, Sharyn Rubino (Blauvelt, NY) and Christine Perone (Pearl River, NY). Mary Lou is also survived by her sister Linda Large and grandsons, Alexander, Lucas, Nicholas, and Jake.
Mary Lou worked in sales for many years before returning to school at the University of New Paltz, where she received a bachelor's degree in education. After graduating she worked as an English teacher in Essex County, NJ until her retirement. During her time as a teacher she made a positive lasting impact on her students and co-workers. Teaching was her true calling
Mary Lou was a longstanding member of the United Methodist Church in Garnerville, NY, where she loved to sing in the church choir. Her voice would always resonate during Christmas Eve services.
To honor Mary Lou’s wishes, there will be no funeral service. Please privately celebrate her memory in your own ways. Mary Lou will be with us all in spirit, singing and dancing.
