Mary Kay Joyce of Pearl River, NY died peacefully in her home Sunday April 23, 2023, after a long, courageous battle with cancer. Mary Kay was born December 20, 1957 to Albert and Kathleen Wassell in the Bronx, NY. She attended St. Nicholas of Tolentine High School where she met her husband of 41 years, John Joyce. After high school she received a bachelor’s degree, and later on a master’s degree, from Iona College. Mary Kay and John moved to Pearl River in 1986 where they raised their 3 children, Michael, Tony, and Jack. Mary Kay worked as a beloved elementary school teacher and oversaw many after school enrichment programs at Corpus Christi Holy Rosary School in Port Chester, NY for 20 years, until she became ill. Mary Kay was a spirited supporter of the Pearl River Pirates football teams and was an active parishioner at St. Aedan Church of Pearl River. In memory of her son Michael, Mary Kay established a scholarship that supported the college pursuits of numerous Pearl River High School graduates. Mary Kay is survived by her husband, John, her 2 sons Tony and Jack, her mother, Kathleen, her sisters, Pattie-Anne and Monica, her brother, Albert, her sisters-in law, Mary Margret, Mary Elizabeth and Donna, her brothers in-law James, Roger, and Tom, and her many nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her son, Michael, her father, Albert, her father-in law, Anthony, and her mother in-law, Bridie. Visiting will be Wednesday April 26 at Wyman-Fisher Funeral Home from 4-8pm. A funeral mass will be at St. Aedan Church, Pearl River Thursday April 27 at 10am.
