Mary Kennedy Obituary

Mary D. Kennedy, a homemaker passed away at home on Saturday, March 8, 2025.  Mary was born December 5, 1929 in Nyack, NY to John and Katherine Costin.  She lived in Blauvelt, NY before moving to Pearl River when she was 15 and graduated from Pearl River High School in 1947.

She met her husband, Samuel Kennedy while working as a dental assistant at Rockland State Hospital when he would make grocery deliveries to the hospital.  After their marriage in 1948, Mary helped Sam run their family owned Nauraushaun Neighborhood Store until 1964.

Afterwards while raising her family over the years, she was a Sunday school teacher, brownie leader, girl scout neighborhood chairman, charter member of the Hudson Valley Quilt Club, crocheted and knitted many little hats and blankets for Birthright International of Nanuet. and later active in the prayer shawl ministry in her church.

Predeceased by her husband, Samuel, brother John Costin, Jr., sisters, Dorothy Castillitto and Grace Maggiolo.  Mary is survived by her son, David Kennedy of Lawrenceville, GA and daughter, Nancy Kennedy of Pearl River.

Mary's son and daughter were so blessed and could not imagine having a better mom.  She will be remembered as a kind, wonderful friend to so many, but the very best friend to her son and daughter.
