Marion Dolan Obituary

Marion Louise Dolan, a longtime resident of Pearl River, NY passed away on June 16, 2020 at the Allendale Community for Senior Living in Allendale, NJ. Marion lived a few years in Nanuet, NY and spent most of her retirement at Thorpe Village in Sparkill, NY but Pearl River was always home.
Marion Louise, born in 1935, was named for both of her parents, Marion and Louis Dolan, and nicknamed Marilou. She was a member of the Pearl River High School class of 1953. Soon after, she worked as a Catholic Charities Home Aid. For more than twenty five years Marion was a loving childcare provider for her many nieces and nephews and the children of dear friends. Marion earned her Associate Degree from Rockland Community College and was a longtime employee of Lederle Laboratories until she retired.
Marilou was a member of St. Margaret’s Parish her entire life. She enjoyed her memberships in St. Margaret’s Church Choir, the Lions Club, the LERA International Club and bowling league, local musical theater groups, the Ancient Order of Hibernians, and the Pearl River Senior Center.
Marion was an active community volunteer helping out with school reunions, participating in church activities, and helping charitable groups. Marion volunteered transportation services to the visually impaired for more than thirty years. Marion earned numerous certificates of recognition from the State of New York for her work through the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program.
Marilou began singing while harmonizing with her sisters as a little girl. She performed in living room skits, school and church productions, and in the chorus of local theater groups. Later she picked up piano and then guitar. Marilou enjoyed traveling throughout North America, South America, and Europe visiting family or having fun with travel clubs. She loved her camera and was a reliable photographer at family and community gatherings. In retirement, Marilou loved keeping up with televised sports of all sorts and cheering for her favorite teams.
Marion is preceded in death by her parents Louis and Marion Dolan, her brothers and sisters Margaret Dolan Albrecht, Louis Dolan, Abigail Dolan Davis, Catharine Dolan Crowley, and James Dolan.
Marion is survived by her devoted friend Rose Young and dozens of nieces, nephews, cousins, and family friends among the loving members of the Albrecht, Crowley, Davis, Dolan, Hanrehan, Harvey, and Stemplinger clans.
Marion will be laid to rest with her parents and other family members at the Oak Hill Cemetery in Nyack, NY on June 25, 2020. A celebration of life and Memorial Mass at St. Margaret’s is being planned for a later date.
Marion Dolan had a full and wonderful life and became a shining role model for anyone who wishes to achieve their personal best.
