Margaret Mary McLinskey (Marie), a long-time resident of Pearl River, N.Y., passed away peacefully at home at the age of 88 after a long, courageous battle with Alzheimer’s disease. The family is so grateful to Jennifer Marshall-Adams, her dedicated and loving caregiver for over 5 years.
Marie was born in the Bronx on September 9, 1932 to Michael and Katherine Shaughnessy. She was proud of her Irish American heritage. She was educated at St. Pius Grammar School and St. Pius High School. She married her best friend, Thomas McLinskey, at St. Pius Church in the Bronx on April 16, 1955. They moved to Pearl River in 1960 where they raised their four daughters. She was totally devoted to her children and took such pride in her thirteen grandchildren. They were happily married for 57 years. Marie was Tom’s main support when he suffered a stroke. A model of loyalty and love, she never left his side.
Marie worked as a teaching assistant for the Pearl River School District for 28 years. She loved helping children and working with colleagues. She was blessed with many loving and loyal friends throughout the years. An active parishioner of St. Margaret Church in Pearl River for many years, she possessed a strong Catholic faith. Upon her retirement, she was a Eucharistic Minister who attended daily Mass for many years. She enjoyed music, cooking, reading, walking, spending time with her family and friends at the Pearl River Swim Club, and vacations on Long Beach Island. Marie was an excellent housekeeper who enjoyed decorating her home. She took pride in dressing with style and will be remembered for her beautiful smile. Marie was a true lady, loved and admired by everyone.
She was predeceased by her husband Thomas in 2012 and her loving brother Jack Shaughnessy. She is survived by her four daughters, Mary Dougherty (Bill), Eileen Shepard, (Darren), Sheila Golden, (Greg), and Colleen Higgins (Patrick), and her grandchildren, Clare, Maureen, and Kathleen Dougherty; Kate, Dylan, and Andrew Shepard; Conor, Taylor, and Reilly Golden; and Thomas, Liam, Brendan, and Erin Higgins, and one great grandchild, Henry Shepard Taylor. She is also survived by her loving sister Eileen Fleming, sisters-in-law, Arlene Shaughnessy, Dorothy McLinskey, and Kathy McLinskey, and many nieces and nephews.
