Margaret Mary Coen

Margaret Mary Coen (nee Mahoney) of Pearl River, NY, former resident of Middle Village, died on 9/6/25.  She was 98 years old.

Margie was born 9/4/1927 in Manhattan, NY to Thomas and Elizabeth Flanagan Mahoney.  She was educated in Manhattan and graduated from Cathedral High School in 1945.   During high school, while spending the summers in Rockaway with her family, Margie met the love of her life Jimmy who was a lifeguard at the beach.  They dated 7 years and married on October 1, 1949 at St. Peter & Paul Church in Bronx, NY.  They celebrated their 75th Anniversary in 2024.

Jimmy and Margie lived in Pearl River for the past 23 years.  Before that, they lived in Middle VIllage, NY from 1956 to 2001 and in Rockaway, NY from 1949 to 1956.  Locally she was a member of St. Margaret of Antioch Parish. 

Being a warm,intelligent and witty woman, Margie will be remembered for her endless love and deep devotion to her family.  She had a gift for making people feel welcome and cherished.  Her humor could light up a room and her wisdom was often shared with her family and friends.  She loved a good book and peaceful walks.  She found joy in simple pleasures from a good game of scrabble to lively vacations filled with laughter, games and love.  Her strength, grace and gentle guidance left a lasting imprint on all who knew her.

Surviving Margie are her husband James, her children Margaret O'Connor and husband John, James Coen and wife Kim, Eileen McGowan and husband Patrick, Ellen Huber and husband Christopher  her grandchildren …Margaret Hanson and husband Tim, Katherine O'Connor and husband Michael Ma, Brian McGowan and wife Erin, Jillian Marano and husband Billy, Christopher Huber and wife Wendy Clarke, Kahlie Coen and Andy Nuttall, Ashley Kolesk and husband Tom, James Huber and Adriana Mendez, … her great grandchildren, Sean Ma, Elizabeth Ma, James Hanson, Jack Ma, Keira McGowan, Molly Hanson, Bryn McGowan, Shea McGowan, Conor McGowan, Liam Marano, Grady Marano, James Kolesk, Myles Huber, Reilly Marano, Brian Kolesk.

She also is survived by her sister Mary McManus and her brother Thomas Mahoney and is predeceased by her parents Thomas and Elizabeth Mahoney and her husband's parents Myles and Mary Coen and her sisters Helen McCarthy and Florence Powderly O'Neill and her sisters-in-law Nancy Adams and Molly Donato and her grandson Sean.  

Visitation will be Thursday, September 18 from 9-10:30AM at Wyman-FIsher Funeral Home, 100 Franklin Avenue, Pearl River, NY.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, September 18 at 11AM at St. Margaret of Antioch Church, 115 West Central Avenue, Pearl River, NY.  Interment will follow at Ascension Cemetery, 650 Saddle River Road, Airmont, NY.  In lieu of flowers the family would appreciate donations to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital(www.stjude.org) Condolences may be sent to the family by visiting
