Kayla Elizabeth Fitzpatrick (18) passed peacefully in the early morning of Friday, September 22, at 3:33 a.m., surrounded by her loving family.
A 2023 graduate of Pearl River High School, Kayla just started studying early childhood education at St. Thomas Aquinas. She was excited to attend college and was loving her classes so far. She was looking forward to passing her driver’s test and getting that new car her grandparents promised her.
Kayla was a sweet and vibrant young girl who left us far too soon. Kayla filled every moment of her life with kindness, joy, and enthusiasm. She loved getting her nails done, playing video games, and hanging out with her dog, Cujo. She loved watching "Cops" with her dad and listening 80s music with her mom. She grew up doing construction with her grandfather (using her toddlebox) and eating Grandma's famous scrambled eggs and grilled cheese.
She stayed busy throughout her life with dance, soccer, and softball, and completed all six levels of Girl Scouts, from kindergarten through twelfth grade. She also served on Youth Court for two years and volunteered for the Venture Foundation.
Kayla embraced life with a pure heart, and her compassionate spirit touched the lives of many. Her memory will live with us forever as a reminder of the beauty, pleasure, and passion that she brought into our lives.
Kayla leaves behind a grieving family who will always cherish her memory, including her parents, Bob and Shawnessy; her grandparents, Tom and Eileen; uncles and aunts (Michael, Fawn, Tom and Jenny, Brendan and Nancy, Dennis and Cristen); and young cousins who love her and will continue to look up to her (Jack, Liam, Danny, and Charlotte).
She also leaves behind many friends who were family, including Dominique, Jamal, Benjamin, Dominic, Larissa, Kat, Andrew, and so many more. Not to mention the dozens of close friends Kayla had from kindergarten on, including Madeline Brown, Ella Fitzsimons, Grace Montemarano, Jordan Sealander,Tobi, and Vee.
Kayla was predeceased by her loving grandmother, Rebecca Ficke; her beloved aunt, Maureen Eisele; and her loving uncle, Eddie Dempsey.
We will celebrate her life with a heavy heart, but we find solace in knowing that she now rests in eternal peace. Kayla will be dearly missed, but her legacy of love and sweetness will live on in our hearts forever.
