Kathleen M. Hickey, a 52-year resident of Pearl River, NY, passed away on August 13, 2025, at home, surrounded by her loving family.
Born on September 26, 1942, in Skagh, Boherbue, Co. Cork, Ireland, to Con and Rita Cronin, Kathleen emigrated to New York in 1960, where she began working at The Metropolitan Life Insurance Company.
Shortly after arriving in the U.S., she met the love of her life, Timmie Hickey, and they were married on August 18, 1962. Kathleen devoted herself as a loving wife, mother, and homemaker to Timmie and their six daughters. Kathleen is dearly remembered by her husband Timmie, and daughters Sheila (Joe) Fahy, Cathy (P.J.) Clancy, Bernadette (Mike) Carroll, and Erin (Dave) Layton, and pre-deceased by her beloved daughters Maureen and Margaret.
Kathleen was deeply proud of her Irish heritage and dedicated herself to preserving and promoting Irish culture within her community. She was a founding member of the Rockland County Ladies A.O.H. Division 3, where she served as the inaugural Recording Secretary. An active presence in the Irish dance community, Kathleen was especially known for her hard work and dedication as a member of the Rockland County Feis Committee.
After raising her family, Kathleen returned to work at Lederle Laboratories in the catering division and later, the Children's Vaccine Department.
Upon their retirement, Kathleen and Timmie cherished spending their summers at the Jersey Shore, where they enjoyed countless hours with their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren at Ocean Beach 3.
Kathleen’s greatest joy in life was her eleven cherished grandchildren: Maureen (Kevin) Foley, Katie (Ed) McManus, Joseph and Grace Fahy, Bridget, Peter, and Tim Clancy, Danny and Emma Layton, and Ryan and Pearse Carroll. She was also blessed with great-grandchildren: Connor, Ella, and Jack Foley, and Penelope and Thomas McManus.
Kathleen is also survived by her loving sisters Margaret McSweeney and Bridget Starcher, her brother-in-law Gus Hickey, sisters-in-law Mary Schumacher, Nora Murphy and Carmel Hickey. She is predeceased by her parents; her brother, Denis Cronin; and her brother-in-laws, Connie McSweeney, Denis and Danny Hickey and sister-in-law Sheila Casey.
Kathleen will be lovingly remembered by her many nieces, nephews, extended family, neighbors, and her wide circle of friends.
