Kathleen Regina (Bersig) Cardinale passed away peacefully on June 14, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. She was 83.
Born in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn, on February 16, 1942, Kathleen was a woman of strong faith, quiet strength, and fierce devotion to the people she loved. She was a registered nurse by profession, a calling that reflected her deep compassion and steady presence. Her faith was a constant source of strength and purpose throughout her life. Kathleen was an active member of St. Margaret of Antioch Church in Pearl River, where she found joy in singing in the choir and serving as a dedicated member of the Rosary Altar Society. Whether caring for patients, supporting loved ones, or offering her time and voice to the church, she gave of herself freely and with grace.
Kathleen was predeceased by her beloved husband of 52 years, Edward John Cardinale, with whom she shared a life filled with love and laughter. Together, they built a loving home where family always came first and where their children and grandchildren grew up surrounded by faith, warmth, and unconditional love.
She is survived by her five children: Edward J. DiMaio, Kathleen Cardinale, Jeanne Lakowski and her husband Adrian, Cindi Cardinale, and Edward W. Cardinale and his wife Elizabeth. She was the proud and devoted grandmother of thirteen grandchildren—Dave Walsh (Christina), Kelsea Dunne (Kevin), Connor Lakowski (Olivia), Lindsay Broderick (Russell), Kyle Lakowski, James Walsh, Victoria Lakowski, Tristan Wheeler, Grace Cardinale, Suuki Cardinale, Kaitlin Cardinale, Haley Cardinale, and the youngest, Edward John “EJ” Cardinale, lovingly named in honor of his grandfather. She was also a cherished great-grandmother to five beloved little ones—David Walsh, Logan Dunne, Ronan Dunne, Angeline Lakowski, and Daphne Lakowski—each of whom brought new light and laughter into her life.
She was also preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Ann Bersig; her sister, Jean Brennan; and her brother, James Bersig, all of whom she loved dearly. She is survived by her sister, Patricia Campanella, who remained a source of love and support throughout her life. Kathleen is also remembered with love by her sister-in-law, Lauretta Bersig, along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends who were like family to her.
Kathleen’s greatest joy was her family. She adored them unconditionally and took immense pride in the lives they built. Nothing made her happier than being surrounded by her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren; each one a source of love, laughter, and fulfillment in her life.
She lived with quiet strength, deep faith, and a heart full of love. Her presence brought comfort, her words carried kindness, and her devotion to family was unwavering. Kathleen will be deeply missed, but the love she gave so freely will live on in all of us.
Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday, June 17, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Wyman-Fisher Funeral Home, 100 Franklin Avenue, Pearl River, NY. A Catholic Mass will be celebrated at St. Margaret of Antioch Church in Pearl River on Wednesday, June 18, at 10:00 AM, followed by burial at Frederick W. Loescher Veterans Memorial Cemetery.
