Judith Ellen (Cassara) Flynn

 Judith Cassara Flynn of Suffern passed away on June 25th 2021 at the age of 72.  Judy’s career working to improve the lives of people with developmental disabilities began in 1972 and she continued her efforts until shortly before her death.  Her career encompassed providing service at Letchworth Village/Hudson Valley Developmental Services and most notably as cofounder of Another Step Inc. where she worked until she retired in 2015.

Judy was born on January 30th, 1949 at Good Samaritan Hospital to Dr. Thomas and Elvira Cassara.  She grew up in Pearl River and was a lifelong resident of Rockland County.  She graduated from Rockland Community College and the University of Maryland with a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology. 

Judy will be remembered by all those who knew her for her love of family, boundless compassion, energy, and desire to improve the lives of everyone encountered, including those with developmental disabilities.  During her career, she was an agent for positive change which led her to cofound Another Step as a vehicle to fulfill her vision.  As a mother she always cherished every moment of her children’s development and relished being a grandmother. 

She is survived by her husband, William Flynn of Suffern, son, Ryan (Julie) of Atlanta, daughters, Devan and Megan of Manhattan, granddaughters, Sophie and Vivienne, sisters, Thomasina Lester of Missouri, Jacqueline Gill of Los Angeles, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Judy was predeceased by her parents, Dr. Thomas and Elvira Cassara, sister, Patricia Dorsey, niece, Sorrel Gill, as well as brothers-in-law, Timothy Dorsey, Harpriet Gill and Buddy Lester.  

Calling hours are 1 to 3 and 5 to 7 PM Thursday July 1st, 2021 at Wyman Fisher Funeral Home in Pearl River.

The Funeral Mass is 10:00am Friday July 2nd, 2021 at St. Margaret’s Church in Pearl River.  Burial to follow at St. Peter’s Cemetery in Haverstraw.
