Joseph LaDuca was born on March 20, 1932, in Manhattan, to Marino and Maria LaDuca. He married Lucia (Lucy) D’Angelo in 1957 and they moved to Pearl River in 1966, where they brought up their family. In later years, they also enjoyed time in Florida.
Joseph served honorably in the Korean War; he was especially proud to wear his hat and enjoyed the recognition it brought him. His keen sales ability and big personality led to a long and successful career in sales. But his true legacy wasn’t defined by his work—it was defined by the way he lived, loved, and made others feel.
To those who knew him, he was simply Joey—a man larger than life, with a heart to match. He understood, better than most, how precious each day was, and he made sure to live it fully. His warmth, generosity, and infectious spirit left a mark on everyone he met.
A proud and beloved member of the Elks and American Legion, Joey was a regular at the hall, always surrounded by friends, and laughter. He had a gift for drawing people in—and once you were in his circle, you were family. He and Lucy also enjoyed their time with the senior citizens.
A visit to the LaDuca home was never just a quick hello. What started as a drop-in often turned into a 10-course meal, complete with song—thanks to Joey’s many musical talents—and of course, dessert, because no visit was complete without coffee and cake. You always left with a full belly and an even fuller heart.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 67 years, Lucy; his daughter, Valerie and husband Jeff O’Connor; his son, Paul; and his cherished grandchildren, Lindsey Plesko (Vance), Lara Thomas (Spencer), and Paul LaDuca. He was also blessed with five great-grandchildren—Austin, Ryan, Carson, Landon, and Ava—each of whom lit up his life and brought him endless joy; as well as his sister, Mary Ingrasci, nieces, nephews and cousins. We are certain those who passed before him are already celebrating Joe’s life with a mandolin jam session.
Joseph LaDuca leaves behind a gaping hole in the hearts of all who knew and loved him. But he also leaves behind something even more enduring: a treasure trove of memories, a legacy of love, and the kind of joy that echoes through generations.
To have known Joey was truly a gift. To carry his memory forward is our honor.
Friends and family will gather to remember Joseph at a wake on Wednesday from 3:00 to 7:00 PM at Wyman-Fisher Funeral Home in Pearl River. A funeral mass will be held on Thursday at 10:00 AM at Saint Margaret’s Church in Pearl River. In lieu of flowers, friends may make memorial donations to United Hospice of Rockland or a charity of their choice.
