Joseph Peter Accetta

Joseph Peter Accetta, of Pearl River, New York, passed away peacefully on January 17, 2022, at the age of 97. 

Joseph (Joe, Joey) was born in the Bronx, New York to Frank and Margaret Accetta. He served as part of the United States Navy 79th Construction Battalion, or “Seabees,” during World War II, and was stationed in Alaska and Okinawa. After his military service, he joined the New York Plumbers Union Local 2. He then served for 34 years with The FDNY Ladder 33, Battalion 19. In 1956, he married Dorothea, and shortly after they moved from New York City to Pearl River, NY.
 

Joe loved working in his garden and spending time with his family. He could often be found enjoying a good meal, sipping a martini, and regaling those around him with jokes and stories. Joe is survived by his wife, Dorothea; his five children, Dr. Peter (Lynn) Accetta, Marie (Richard) Raquet, Teresa (Richard) Pugh, Rita Accetta, and Martin (Elena) Accetta; eight grandchildren, Melinda, Emily, Julia, Jillian, Alexander, Luke, James, and Isabelle; and great-grandson, Maverik. 
 

A wake will be held on Friday, January 21 from 4-7 pm at Wyman-Fisher Funeral Home in Pearl River, NY. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Margaret’s Church in Pearl River on Saturday, January 22, at 10 am. Interment will follow at Frederick Loescher Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Spring Valley, NY.
