John Patrick Screene III

It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of our precious son and brother, John Patrick Screene III, who died unexpectedly at his home in Pearl River on Saturday, June 25, 2022.

John was born on January 12, 2000 in Valhalla, NY to John and Mary Brosnan Screene.  He graduated from Clarkstown South High School in 2020 and continued his education at Rockland Boces Project Search job-training program at Good Samaritan Hospital where he graduated last week.  John was so excited to be starting the next chapter of his life.  He was going to have another great summer at Camp Venture before beginning a Day Hab program in September, and was then going to apply for his dream job at Stew Leonard’s.

John had a zest for life like no other.  Everything he did was with the greatest excitement and enthusiasm, and always with a big smile.  He touched the hearts of all that met him. John loved nothing more than spending time with family and friends at parties, holidays, get-togethers and vacations.  Everything was a celebration to John.  He also enjoyed great peace and comfort in his happy place in Rhode Island where he spent the last 21 summers.  John really found himself when he joined his beloved Boces Bombers Special Olympics team 10 years ago.  He was a proud teammate, friend and fierce competitor.  In 2018, John was privileged to travel to France with the Lourdes Kids of Rockland.  He spent Easter week on a spiritual pilgrimage for special needs people, meeting other groups from around the world, singing, dancing, praying and having a great time.  The highlight of his week was being confirmed in the Grotto at Lourdes.  

John leaves behind his parents, big sister Jackie, his Nana Elizabeth Brosnan, Grandma and Grandpa Patricia and John Screene-Spruck, as well as many aunts, uncles and cousins whom he loved dearly.   He is predeceased by his Papa Cornelius Brosnan in 2018 and Grandpa John Screene in 1992. 

Visiting is Wednesday, June 29 from 3:00-7:00 pm at Wyman-Fisher Funeral Home.   A Mass of Christian burial is on Thursday, June 30 at Saint Aedan Church at 10:00 am.  Interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Hawthorne, NY.
