John "Jack" McRory Obituary

Jack McRory passed away peacefully on April 27, 2021 at the age of 91 at his Tappan, NY home surrounded by his family.  He was predeceased recently by his loving wife of 69 years, Marie.  He was also predeceased by his son Kevin, his parents John and Jean (Donaghey) McRory, and brother Jerry.  He is survived by his sons John (Diana) Suffern, NY, Steve (Pat) North Myrtle Beach, SC, daughter-in-law (Renee) Owego, NY, and son Brian (Ann) Tappan, NY, brother Ray McRory Garden City, NY, grandchildren Jennifer, Mindy, Carrie, John, Michael, Brandon and Caitlin and 10 great grandchildren.  Jack was an inspiration and role model to everyone with his love, dedication and care for Marie.

 

Jack was born in Bay Ridge Brooklyn and grew up an avid Brooklyn Dodger fan.  The highlight of his youth was the 1955 World Championship. However, his love of baseball came to an end when the Dodgers moved to LA.  He quit high school during WWII to help support his family but later received his GED in the US Army and went to Pace University on the GI bill. He also served in the United States Marine Corp.   He moved to Apalachin, NY in 1962 to begin working at IBM as a Programming Manager in their Computer Department.  He worked there for 28 years including an international stint in Stuttgart Germany. He retired in 1990 and continued pursuing his passions of golf, tennis and travel until health limited his physical activities well into his 80s.  He was an active member of the Apalachin Lions Club for many years, and was a volunteer financial officer for many of the Broome County catholic churches playing a lead role in automating their accounting systems.

 

Donations in his honor may be made to the Vestal Elks, Lodge 2508, 2071 Vestal Parkway W. Vestal, NY 13850 identifying, Veterans or Major Projects in the memo.

 

A visitation will take place at 10AM followed by the funeral mass celebrated at 11AM at St. Patrick’s in Binghamton on Monday, May 17, 2021. Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery in Apalachin.
