John W. Coyle (94) of Nanuet, New York, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on May 7th, 2024. John (Jack) was born to John and Violet Coyle (Wright) on December 6th, 1929. He grew up in the Vinegar Hill neighborhood of Manhattan on West 135th Street. He graduated from Power Memorial High School in 1947.
After serving two years in the United States Army during the Korean War from 1951 to 1953, he joined the N.Y.P.D. and served there for nine years. He then became a member of the F.D.N.Y., where he served for 29 years and attained the rank of captain. His humor and wit brought a smile to everyone he met.
Jack married the true love of his life in 1958, Theresa Maher. Together, they built a life rich in love and laughter. He was a devoted husband for their 66 years of marriage.
Jack is survived by his wife and five children; John Coyle, Thomas (Susan) Coyle , Patricia (Drew) Maggard, Theresa (Hal) Neff, and James (Karen) Coyle. He was a loving father who made his family the center of his life.
Jack has thirteen grandchildren; Andrew (Elizabeth), Daniel, and Jack Maggard, Lamorna and Violet Coyle, Troy and Riles Neff, Kyle, Matthew, Brian, and Sean Coyle, and Bridget and Patrick Coyle. He is also survived by his first great-grandchild, Ella Maggard, and many nieces and nephews.
Jack Coyle’s life was one marked by his dedication to his country, faith, family, and many friends. His life will be celebrated, and the family finds comfort that he is in heaven watching over them.
