John M Ward

John M. Ward of Pearl River, N.Y. passed away on December.23,2020 at home surrounded by his loving family. He was 85. John, aka “Sonny” was born May 30,1935 in Brooklyn, N.Y.. to John and Catherine Ward. John grew up in Queens and later moved to Pearl River with the love of his life of 56 years,Sophia. Together they raised four children. John served in the Army Reserves and then following his father’s footsteps worked as a loyal and dedicated member of the International Longshoreman’s Association Local No.1 for 63 years, including time as a Union Official. John will be remembered as a loving patriarch who devoted his life to the well being of his family. He always carried himself with honor and dignity and was someone you could always count on. He had a keen intellect with a dry wit, and was unselfish to a fault. This endeared him to everyone who knew him. He remained strong to the very end. People who knew him would agree he was one of a kind. John is survived by his loving wife Sophia, his son John, his daughters Diana, Kristine, Barbara and his grandchildren Rio and Johnny. He is also survived by his sister Kathleen, his brothers Kenneth , Charles, Kevin (Kathy) and many nieces and nephews. In passing he is reunited with his parents and his brother Brian. A wake is scheduled at Wyman-Fisher funeral home on Tuesday December 29, 2020 from 9 AM -11 AM. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 11:30 AM  at St. Anthony’s Church with the burial to follow at St.Anthony’s Cemetery.
